Turbine Sound Studios proudly presents this first HD version of the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 soundpackage for the DC-3.

We had the chance to record sounds from the Danish DC-3 Vennernes aircraft to create this soundpackage. All enginesounds are recorded in TSS HD audioquality for maximum clarity and detail, then compiled to meet the FS2004 sound specification.

Special thanks goes out to the crew of DC-3 Vennerne.

This soundpackage is created in loving memory of Erik Nielsen.

The Douglas DC-3 is an American fixed-wing propeller-driven airliner, the speed and range of which revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s. Its lasting impact on the airline industry and World War II makes it one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made.  The major military version was designated the C-47 Skytrain, of which more than 10,000 were produced.  Many DC-3 / C-47s are still used in all parts of the world.

The Pratt & Whitney R-1830 Twin Wasp was an American aircraft engine widely used in the 1930s and 1940s. Produced by Pratt & Whitney, it was a two-row, 14-cylinder, air-cooled radial design. It displaced 1,830 cu in (30.0 L)
and its bore and stroke were both 5.5 in (140 mm). A total of 173,618 R-1830 engines was built,[1] and from their use in two of the most-produced aircraft ever built, the B-24 bomber and DC-3 transport, more Twin Wasps may have been built than any other aviation piston engine in history. An enlarged version with a slightly higher power rating was produced as the R-2000.
