The F-8 Crusader was a fighter from the cold war era that saw first service in 1955. It became a mainstay aboard aircraft carriers and saw considerable combat during the Vietnam War in which it had considerable success against MiG-17s and MiG-21s.
In all about 1000 of the several different variants of the Crusader was built and used until retired in 1976.
