RAF Upper Heyford

Upper Heyford was a base for Strategic Air Command (SAC) bombers and tactical reconnaissance and fighter aircraft of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) during the Cold War.

Only the flight-line area of Upper Heyford required military identification to gain access, making it unique among UK bases. Aside from the commercial facilities, the rest of the base was open to both military and civilians.

The Team SDB rendition of RAF Upper Heyford depicts the air base in the 1980s and early 1990s, when the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing (55th, 77th, and 79th Tactical Fighter Squadrons) flew the General Dynamics F-111E.
