In Colombia, the Amazon region is formed not only by the Amazonian region in the south east of the country, but also by other five regions that share the same type of weather and landscape as the Amazon. These are Vaupes, Caqueta, Guainia, Guaviare and Putumayo.

The high diversity of plants and animal species that are found in this area of the country contributes to place Colombia as the most bio-diverse country in the world per square meter.

This vast area is covered by many "Local Airlines" flying the good old DC-3! There are more DC-3s flying in Colombia today than in any other area of the world. There are complete shops that "make" parts for this aircraft as well as its engines! The DC-3 is alive in this country as it was back in the 1940s and 50s!

Out here, there are few roads, and in the rainy season, rivers are often un-navigable, so, the DC-3 is the only practical way in and out.
