The aircraft that set the path for Cessna's general aviation aircraft that we fly today.
The Cessna 120/140 series aircraft is a well rounded aircraft that is relatively easy to fly. It was built to be easy to fly but more importantly easy to buy. Following World war 2 Cessna was looking to diversify from their usual aircraft. Believing that there would be a new market for such an aircraft the design of the 120/140 was to set Cessna firmly on the path of general aviation for which it is well known today.
The Cessna 140 differs from its 120 brother in a number of key aspects including a larger engine and a change to the landing gear to overcome the 120's tendency to nose over on heavy braking. What transpired was a very well mannered , easy to fly and very pleasing to the eye aircraft that was to be the precursor to some of the most widely used general aviation aircraft in the air today.
