Introducing the Buhl "Bull Pup" LA-1, a unique light airplane designed by Buhl Aircraft Company's chief engineer, Etienne Dormoy. This small shoulder-wing monoplane sets itself apart from other planes in its class with its innovative construction and features. The all-metal semi-monocot fuselage with exterior longerons provides added bracing and durability, making it one of the first airplanes with this type of construction. The exterior longerons prevent "oil canning" under extreme loads, a common issue with aircraft of this size.
The LA-1's wings are constructed of solid spruce spars and truss-type ribs covered with fabric, with duralumin leading edges and riveted ailerons. The vertical stabilizer is also made of riveted duralumin construction, making it a sturdy and reliable component of the aircraft. The wings are rigged at a 3-degree dihedral and are wire braced to the apex of a steel tube cabane atop the fuselage on the upper side and to a lower fuselage fitting on the underside. The bracing wires are of streamlined section and of heavy gauge, ensuring the strength and stability of the aircraft during flight.
The landing gear is a standout feature of the LA-1, boasting oleo spring shock absorbers and a steel spring tail skid. The long-legged landing gear design allows for smooth taxiing, while the rubber shock cords snub taxiing loads. A Flottorp wooden propeller and Goodyear Airwheels come standard, and optional brakes are available.
We offer two models of the LA-1: the Land Plane and Float Plane. Both models are fully animated, with tool tips active in the VC cockpit for all animated parts. The animations allow for an immersive experience, giving you a realistic feel for the plane's movements and handling. Our installers are compatible with the latest 64-Bit versions of Lockheed Martin Prepar3D, as well as earlier versions of P3D and Legacy FSXA/FSX Steam Editions.
