You will also find a replica of N3200 - QV, one of "The Dunkirk Spitfires," which was excavated from the Normandy beaches in 1940 and restored to flying condition today. We will walk you through all of the processs required to fly a Spitfire, point out some of the plane's distinctive features, and bring you as close to experiencing what it was like to fly this fantastic fighter as possible.

Reginald J. Mitchell died of cancer in 1937. He had seen the prototype fly the year before, but he had no idea how important his brilliant design for "an all-metal monoplane, eight-gun fighter" would be in deciding the outcome of the Second World War.
Spitfires fought in both the European and Pacific theaters of the war, from the beginning to the end, and did a great job. They continued to serve with honor in other wars up until the 1960s.
But Mitchell's graceful little fighter really showed its worth in the darkest days of 1940, when Britain was on the losing side after a disastrous campaign in France, the evacuations from Dunkirk, and the "Battle of Britain" that followed.
Pilots flew the Spitfire into battle every day of the long, hot summer of 1940. It was often paired with the old Hawker Hurricane, which was used by many RAF squadrons at the time.
Some of the "aces" who fought in the "Battle of Britain" flew Mk1As, and you can see some of them in this simulation.
You'll also find an exact copy of N3200-QV, one of "The Dunkirk Spitfires," which was found on the beaches of Normandy in 1940, dug up, and fixed up so that it can fly again today.
